About Us

Black Earth Compost was founded in January 2011, in Gloucester, MA. Originally a one man, one truck, Cape Ann company, it has steadily grown to become the leading full service compost company in New England. With over 40 trucks and 4 compost facilities, we are dedicated to collecting food scraps from residents, schools, supermarkets, colleges, and more, all across New England. We are also the only vertically integrated company that composts the material too, returning it to customers, farms and selling it in garden centers throughout New England. Whatever your organic waste collection or garden soil needs, we are your one stop shop.

We have partnered with Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority (SCARRA) to develop a local compost facility in Preston, CT. This facility will take your food scraps and turn them into a high quality compost, which will create a regenerative waste system, build healthy soils, and grow a strong food system. We currently offer reliable food scrap pick up in over 100 municipalities throughout New England and operate 4 compost facilities.
