The Chorus of Westerly invites the community to join them for the third annual Messiah & Christmas Carol Sing, an open sing-along of the Christmas choral portions of G.F. Handel’s Messiah as well popular Christmas carols from Carols for Choirs 1. Chorus of Westerly Music Director Andrew Howell will lead the sing along with Melissa Woolverton on piano and with members of the Chorus of Westerly. The event, which will be informal and approximately one-hour in length, will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 6 pm, in the George Kent Performance Hall, 119 High Street, Westerly. Admission to sing or just watch and listen to the event are $20, general admission. Tickets are available by calling 401.596.8663, visiting the Kent Hall Box Office at 119 High Street in Westerly, or online at chorusofwesterly.org.
G.F. Handel’s Messiah, composed in 1741 has become one of the world’s most well-known and performed musical works. The English oratorio has also become increasingly popular during the holiday season, inspiring community sing-along events, known as Messiah Sings or Messiah Sing-Ins, along with frequent full performances. At the Chorus of Westerly's event on December 1st, Andrew Howell will guide our assembled choir through the Christmas choral movements of Messiah as well as approximately six other carols - to be selected at the event - from the famed Christmas choral book, Carols for Choirs 1. The event is a "sing" and not a formal concert. It is open to anyone in the community to attend and participate as a singer or audience member. Light refreshments will be served.
The proceeds from Messiah & Carol Sing will go directly to support the Chorus of Westerly’s 60th season performances and programs including: The Symphonic Concert Series, Christmas Pops, The Kent Hall Masters Series, The Children’s Program, and the annual Summer Pops performance presented by the Chorus each June in Wilcox Park. Money raised will also augment fundraising efforts for special projects including a new phase of renovation and repair work of the historic George Kent Performance Hall.
The Messiah & Carol Sing is family-friendly event (though, young children should only attend with a parent and if they can sit and participate in such an event for one hour). Admission to participate or watch/listen is $20 per person, regardless of age. You can reserve your spot by calling 401.596.8663 or online at chorusofwesterly.org. Music scores will be available at the event to borrow for those who will be singing with us (or, participants may bring their own).Tell a Friend
