As Stonington has done for over 60 years, we look forward to celebrating the annual Blessing of the Fleet. This is to honor our present and past commercial fishermen, lobstermen and their families. The traditional celebration has changed this year, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
THURSDAY July 22 at 6 p.m. : While the Blessing of the Fleet 5k is a virtual event this year, the race committee will be meeting at the town docks at 6 p.m. for an informal "fun run" of the course. Register at www.runreg.com/blessingofthefleet5k
, complete your race on your own during the month of July, or join us on Thursday night!
SATURDAY, JULY 24 from 4-8 p.m. : The Stonington Holy Ghost Society will host a gathering of family and friends to celebrate the Blessing. There will be live music and an assortment of delicious Portuguese foods, plus hamburgers and hot dogs.
SUNDAY, JULY 25 10:30 a.m. : A mass will be held at St. Mary Church in Stonington. Following mass, a scaled-down ceremony will be held at the Town Dock with Bishop Cote and Reverend Perkins, plus Stonington dignitaries. The vessels will be blessed during the traditional boat ride out to the breakwater, where the floral wreath is laid to honor our beloved deceased fishermen.
Thank you in advance for your support!
