As the weather heats up, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum & Research Center has a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in June, July, and August. Museum-goers can enjoy a myriad of educational programs, activities, and more as they learn about Native life in the great outdoors.
Saturdays, 1 – 4 p.m.
Letterboxing
Who doesn’t like a treasure hunt? Learn about Native life while exploring the Farmstead looking for letterboxes. Child-oriented boxes contain a pad and a rubber stamp. Find one of the letterboxes and stamp the booklet with the ink stamp from the letterbox. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.
Saturdays, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Counting Colors and Cultures
Census taking happened regularly on the reservation in the 1800s – although sometimes what was written did not accurately portray who lived here. Become a detective – using historic documents written by overseers and others to shed light on the realities and misrepresentations of counting Pequots in the 19th century. In the Pequot Farmhouse. Free with Museum admission, free to Museum members.
