On Saturday, March 17th at 1:00pm at WLT headquarters (10 High St., Westerly) we will be hosting an Owl Program given by Born to Be Wild Nature Center. BTBW Nature Center is dedicated to the conservation of birds of prey through education and the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned raptors. They strive to promote understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the environment through interactions with wildlife. In 2017 they rehabilitated a total of 74 birds (comprising 20 species) whereas in 2016 they rehabilitated a total of 63 birds (comprising 22 species). Education about these birds and their habitat is more important than ever with the number of injured birds on the rise.
BTBW Nature Center has been a long-term partner with WLT and our environmental education programs. There is great cooperation between our two organizations. WLT works hard to protect open space and wild habitat for the benefit of wildlife as well as the opportunity to educate people on the importance of nature and all it has to offer. BTBW Nature Center works for the conservation of local species, who reside in the exact locations we preserve.
This program will be a great opportunity to learn about our local birds of prey and you will even get to meet a few! BTBW Nature Center will be bringing along 2 Eastern Screech Owls, 1 Barred Owl, and 1 Peregrine Falcon.
We will also be drawing the winning tickets of our winter raffle at this event! It will be an event you won’t want to miss!
