Manufacturing DayDescription
Factory Tours Urged to Raise Awareness of Skilled Career Options
After a successful initial celebration last year, the next Manufacturing Day has been scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4, 2013. Manufacturers, educational institutions and others are encouraged to host events that will highlight the importance of manufacturing to the nation’s economy and draw attention to the many rewarding high-skill jobs in manufacturing fields.
Pat Lee, Director of Marketing, Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, Intl., one of the Co-Producers for Manufacturing Day has stressed its mission to familiarize non-manufacturing audiences with contemporary manufacturing, particularly students, by giving manufacturers an occasion to open their doors to the public. She noted the success of the first year’s celebration in 2012, with 240 events in 37 states, and pointed to 2013’s Manufacturing Day goals — to support 500 events in all 50 states.
The official guide to organizing MFG DAY open houses, the most frequent type of Manufacturing Day event, is now available on MfgDay.com. In it, hosts will learn:
- How to prepare and promote an event
- How to welcome guests and conduct a tour of the facilities
- How to follow up with attendees and the MFG DAY community
If you’re wondering about MFG DAY events other than a plant tour, or know someone who wants to host an event but doesn't know where to start, we encourage you to read or share our “3 Types of Manufacturing Day Events” article, which discusses manufacturing communities and educational fairs — two other types of successful Manufacturing Day events.
A number of tools for planning your event are available for your use at www.mfgday.com. Click on the link and check it out! See what other manufacturers around the state and across the country are planning. Then go to http://www.mfgday.com/user/register to register your event.
