Lantern Light ToursDescription
Lantern Light Tours: The Carpenter
November 27, December 3-4, 10-11, 17-19, 26-27
5:00 - 8:15 p.m.*It is Christmas eve 1876, and mayhem ensues as throngs of people from near and far are traveling to Mystic. The streets are abuzz with talk of the events leading up to this night~ local financier and politician Harold King's referendum requiring everyone to register to vote; the political and economic hardships of this present year; the arrival of three lawyers from Orient Point; the birth of baby John to Elizabeth, who in her advanced age had given up all hope of ever bearing a child; Joseph and Virginia Sawyer's travails as they arrive in town just in time for the miraculous birth of their son; and the secret motivations and intentions behind the dastardly Mr. King and his attempts to keep the Sawyer's new born son from receiving his inheritance. In spite of it all, there is merriment and laughter; wisdom and truth; and a profound sense that there is a plan in place and even though we may not know or understand the plan, we have an important place in it!
This one hour moving performance/walking tour meanders through our 19th-century maritime village. The route covers approx. 1/2 mile of uneven terrain (including cobblestone, wood planking, grass, gravel, and stairs). Audience will walk or stand for the entire show. Please wear appropriate shoes.
In keeping with the holiday spirit, Mystic Seaport kindly requests that each person attending Lantern Light Tours brings a donation of a non-perishable food item. All donations will be given to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center.
