Healthy Nutrition on a BudgetDescription
HEALTHY NUTRITION ON A BUDGET FOCUS OF DEMONSTRATIONS AT WOOD RIVER HEALTH
“Good, Healthy and Cheap”, a three-part informational series being offered by the nutritional staff at Wood River Health Services and their partners at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island this summer, will focus on discovering cost effective ways to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.
The sessions will take place from noon till 2 p.m. on June 20, July 24 and Aug. 29 in the lobby of the health center, located at 823 Main Street in Hope Valley, and will include demonstrations, fresh produce samples, and basket raffles for participants. Sessions are open to the public.
"Healthy Beginnings" on June 20 will include a review of the basics of nutrition, what healthy eating looks like and how to choose nutrient-rich foods. Seasonal fruits and vegetables will be a major focus of the discussion.
Session two, "Healthy Meal Planning on a Budget" on July 24, will offer participants tips to eating healthy without spending a lot of money, as well as a primer on purchasing and cooking cheap, healthy foods.
The August 29 session, "Understanding your BMI (Body Mass Index)”, will help participants to understand the relationship among their food choices, weight and overall health.
Program organizer Michelle Schavoir, RN, a nurse case manager at Wood River Health services, will discuss the series on the center’s radio show, “To Your Health”, on WBLQ1230am Tuesday, June 11 at 8:30 a.m.
You do not have to be a patient of the health center to attend, registration is not required and raffle baskets and healthy food samples will be available!
