Mystic Blues Festival also announces ticket price changes.
Mystic, Conn. -- The Mystic Blues Festival has announced changes to the Knickerbocker Cafe lineup for Sunday, June 30th.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Al Kooper will not be performing at the 2013 Mystic Blues Festival to be held over three nights in three venues from June 28-30.
"We deeply regret any disappointment this causes our patrons," said festival organizer Chris Leigh. "We certainly hope Mr. Kooper will return to the festival in the future."
The new schedule will now feature Sugar Ray and the Bluetones in the Sunday, 8 p.m. spot, Don't Taser Me Bro featuring Fran & Bob Christina with Sam Gentile, Steve Burke & Gary Gramolini in the 6 p.m. spot, and newcomers Mr. Nick & the Dirty Tricks in the 4 p.m. spot.
The $10 matinee price allows patrons to come in for the first three bands with ticket upgrades to the full night available on site.
The festival lineup also includes blues and R&B legends such as Grammy Award-winner, James Cotton; Allman Brothers founding drummer Jai Johanny Johanson and his Jaimoe's Jassz Band and will grace stages at Mystic Shipyard, Olde Mistick Village Art Cinema and Westerly's venerable Knickerbocker Cafe.
Add to that other bars and restaurants around Mystic such as the Daniel Packer Inne, Dog Watch, the Voodoo Grill, Steak Loft and La Luna who will be hosting blues bands throughout the weekend bring the grand total number of acts to 47.
The festival has also lowered ticket prices for the Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas from $40 to $25 for the Friday night show feature Jim Weider and Project Percolator as well as the Saturday night show featuring Greg Piccolo with opener Al Copley. Doors open to both theater shows at 9:30 pm.
Tickets purchased online for shows at Mystic Shipyard and Knickerbocker Cafe are $42.50 per day. Online tickets for Saturday at Mystic Shipyard cost $52.50. Paper tickets can be purchased at Mystic Chamber of Commerce, Tidal River, Mystic and Shoreline Visitor Information Center, Olde Mistick Village Arts Cinema, The Knickerbocker Cafe and Greater Pawcatuck-Westerly Chamber of Commerce are $40 per day for shows on Friday and Sunday. Paper tickets are $50 on Saturday.

Proceeds from the show will benefit Center for Hospice Care Southeastern CT and Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
Leigh said that Mystic Blues Festival will soon apply for a non-profit status as the blues charity progresses on its way to becoming an annual event.
Area food trucks will provide the eats and local retailers will have various items for sale at the Mystic Shipyard venue.
The First Annual Mystic Blues Festival is coming to the Greater Mystic area June 28, 29 & 30, 2013, and will kick off with a fireworks display over the Mystic River on Friday night. The festival will showcase an array of blues legends, including Grammy Winners, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees, and Blues Artist of the Year Award Winners. There will be performances by James Cotton, Jim Weider, Ricky “King” Russell, Jerry Portnoy, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, James Montgomery, Debbie Davies, Kal David and Jeff Pevar, Greg Piccolo, Johnny Nicholas, Fran Christina, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, Jaimoe’s Jassssz Band, Roomful of Blues, and Al Kooper. Opening acts for these artists will consist of critically acclaimed regional blues musicians, as well as emerging talent, performing at an assortment of both ticketed and free venues. This festival is a celebration of the rich tradition of blues music in Southeastern Connecticut and South County, Rhode Island.The Festival’s concept is modeled after small music and film festivals, where performances are in a variety of different sized venues within the local community. Ticketed venues include the beautiful Mystic Shipyard, where music will be held under a massive Sperry tent and food will be provided by Food Truck Festivals of New England. The celebrated Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas Stage will be home to headlining artists for late Friday and Saturday shows. The historic Knickerbocker Café with its rich blues history represents our ticketed venue in Westerly, and the Grand Ballroom of the luxurious Mystic Marriott Hotel rounds out our concert list. Tickets for the Mystic Marriott concert will include admission to a Music Expo showcasing local and regional music retailers, services, and vendors. Bars and restaurants throughout Mystic and Westerly will be hosting blues artists all weekend long in conjunction with the festival. The schedule for all venues and artists will be listed in our festival guide, on our website, and on our phone app. These host venues include The Octagon at the Mystic Marriott, Voodoo Grill, La Luna, The Steak Loft, and Go Fish.
The beautiful Mystic, CT region which is the states number one tourist attraction during the summer months, will serve as the perfect setting for the Festival. With its breathtaking postcard views of the Seaport, wonderful restaurants, state-of-the-art Aquarium, and wonderful shopping in family-oriented Olde Mistick Village and downtown Mystic, as well as Westerly, RI, this wonderful town-wide musical celebration is surely destined to become an annual event.
