The Education Exchange is recruiting 18 new trainees to join its popular Aquaculture Training Program. The program includes 5-week hands-on paid training sessions held at The Education Exchange’s main office in Peace Dale. The Aquaculture Training Program will prepare individuals for entry-level jobs in the growing field of Aquaculture. This program is the result of a grant received from the Real Jobs Rhode Island initiative, led by Governor Gina Raimondo and the Department of Labor and Training.
The 18 Aquaculture participants will be instructed in areas of essential dealer and shipping skills, basic boat mechanics and maintenance, shellfish biology, boating safety, oyster farming and shucking. Participants will also be instructed in areas such as wine pairing and catering and become ServSafe Certified. The combination of these essential skills will give the participant education in all areas of the Aquaculture process from the growing of an oyster seed up to being served at a restaurant table.
Due to the fact that Rhode Island is home to an abundance of aquaculture and shellfish, there is plenty of opportunity to succeed for each participant. The course includes two weeks of internships with local employers. Entry-level jobs are available in this field to anyone that has the skills to do so.
Participants must be 18 years or older, in good physical condition, able to swim, able to lift 50 lbs and have reliable transportation.
Register your interest now as these sessions will fill quickly. Applications can be found on the Education Exchange’s website or by calling 401-783-0293. Applications will be accepted up to 7 days prior to each training session. All participants will receive a weekly stipend of $9.60 per hour during the training.Tell a Friend
