The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will celebrate the season, flavors and mystique of wild mushrooms at the ninth annual Wild Mushroom Festival on Sunday, October 3 from 2 – 6 pm at the Nature Center. Tickets for the event are $12.50 for DPNC members and $15 for non-members and can be purchased at the door.
Many of the area’s most talented chefs will prepare creative wild mushroom dishes on-site under a canopy of autumn leaves at the event. Participants include: Daniel Packer Inne, Flood Tide, Latitude 41, McQuade’s Marketplace, Mystic Soup Company, Puritan & Genesta, RiverWalk, and others. Locally produced beer and juice will also be provided by Cottrell Brewing and Maple Lane Farms. The event’s sponsors include McQuade’s Marketplace and Citizens Bank. The Semi-Locals will perform live bluegrass music.
The event is co-hosted by the Connecticut Valley Mycological Society. Experts will be on hand to identify mushroom specimens and lead guided walks to find mushrooms and other fungi. Visitors can stop by the mushroom display table where more than 100 different species of mushrooms will be available for observation.
Since 1946, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has provided visitors and the community with experiential science programs that further the Center’s mission: to inspire and nurture appreciation and scientific understanding of the natural world and foster a personal environmental ethic. DPNC serves 50,000 people each year with environmental science programs. Originally made possible through the long-term support and commitment of the Denison Society, the Nature Center is a private, not-for-profit organization funded by admission fees, memberships and contributions. With 10 miles of trails, live animals, and a natural history museum, the Nature Center provides many rewarding recreational and educational opportunities. More information about the DPNC and its programs can be found at: www.dpnc.org.
