The United Theatre is excited to announce the RI Arts Block Party, a one-night event in Downtown Westerly celebrating Rhode Island’s vibrant arts scene.
On Saturday, July 30th, from 6-8:30 PM, The United Theatre will host a block party closing down the Canal Street block between Railroad Avenue and High Street in Downtown Westerly. A stage at the center of the street will feature a revolving lineup of acts from Rhode Island’s most acclaimed arts organizations, including The Chorus of Westerly, the Colonial Theatre – Shakespeare in the Park, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School, Trinity Repertory Company and more. Details on the acts as well as additional acts from other Rhode Island artists and organizations will be announced in the days leading up to the event.
Downtown Westerly has experienced a cultural renaissance as of late, with exciting arts venues, a calendar full of local cultural events, a rich music scene and unique local shops, café’s, and restaurants. At the center of it all is the Westerly Regional Arts Partnership (WRAP), a local non-profit whose mission it is to advocate for the arts and promote the Westerly region as an arts destination. WRAP will be hosting various live acts and smaller arts events at Downtown Westerly businesses throughout the night, including the Artists Cooperative Gallery of Westerly, Laurie’s Gallery and Art Learning Center, Maize and Manna, The Savoy Bookstore, The Twisted Vine, The United Theatre and others.
The United Theatre, The Chorus of Westerly, the Rhode Island Philharmonic and Trinity Repertory Company are all recipients of the 2014 Creative and Cultural Economy Bond, a $35 million bond that included more than $23 million in matching funds and preservation grants for renovation projects at nine performing arts facilities across Rhode Island.
