Three Summer Mini Classes to be Offered at ACGOW
The Artist’s Cooperative Gallery is offering three Summer Mini Classes beginning June 26th. Artist Sadie DeVore will teach Ink Wash on June 26. Two sessions will be held, one from 9-11a.m. and one from 1-3p.m. Artist Carey Williams will teach a two-hour Drawing class on July 13 from 10-12a.m. And artist Laurie Gavitt will teach Painting with Acrylics on July 27 from 10-12a.m. Each session is $20 per student. Materials will be provided. Prospective students are encouraged to call or visit the Gallery and sign up early to reserve a spot.
Carey Williams’ Drawing overview will be more about “seeing” than drawing. A still life will be arranged, and students will be given paper, pencils, and kneaded erasers. Topics to be discussed will include creating the illusion of depth, shading, perspective, and composition. Ms. Williams’ vivid oil and pastel paintings, as well as her multimedia work, echo her many interests, which include travel, landscape painting, and portraying people. She is based in North Stonington, Connecticut.
Laurie Gavitt will teach Painting with Acrylics, an introduction to the fundamentals of acrylic painting and basic painting techniques. Ms. Gavitt has a degree from the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston, MA, and has studied watercolor in various American Watercolor Society workshops. A graphic designer for 25 years, she was also Mystic Aquarium's designer and illustrator. She is sponsored by Grumbacher as an artist representative, and also teaches painting locally. Ms. Gavitt’s paintings are in many private collections and various galleries in the New England area. Her web/blog site is lauriegavitt.com
Sadie Devore will teach Ink Washes. Students will use Sumi and Indian ink, brushes, and cotton fiber paper to create texture, pattern, depth and value. In a freeform development process, they will make and layer multiple valued ink washes to build new surfaces, depths of field, and unique spaces. Ms. Devore is a founder of the Stonington Printmaker’s Society and a member of the Connecticut Association of Fine Artists, Lyme Art Association, Mystic Arts Center, Plein Air Painters of Connecticut, Stonington Painters, and many other arts organizations. She lives in Mystic, Connecticut.
