The Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce and Town of Westerly are co-sponsoring two free workshops for area businesses to learn how to comply with new Town recycling regulations. Representatives from the Town, State and RI Resource Recovery will be on hand to discuss the new guidelines that go into effect July 1.
The amended recycling ordinance affects multi family dwellings, all commercial businesses, non-profit organizations and haulers. It was adopted by the Town Council on May 24, 2010 and takes effect July 1, 2011. The new ordinance can be found in the Town of Westerly Code of Ordinances, article II, chapter 217, entitled “solid waste The Chamber and Town are hoping to educate area businesses and non-profit organizations well in advance so that they can take the necessary steps to comply before July 1 and avoid fines ”. A fine of $50 is set for the first offense, and $100 for subsequent offenses.
The two free workshops are scheduled to take place: Wednesday, January 19, 9-10 am with coffee and pastries served and Friday January 21, 12- 1 with pizza and soda served.
