Honor Luncheon: Westerly Little League 52 Years Ago
In 1950, Westerly sports made a name for the town and the state. Westerly’s Little League team went to Williamsport, Pennsylvania to the Little League World Series and represented not only the town but the State of Rhode Island. But at least two on the team were from Pawcatuck.
On Thursday, August 11 at noon, the Westerly Armory is hosting a festive luncheon to honor this 1950 Little League team. Although they were defeated by the Texas champions, they placed second in the nation and their photo will be permanently added to the sports section of the Armory’s People Museum.
The surviving members and deceased member’s families will receive town and state recognition and will recall the events 72 years ago for the attending public at the August 11 event.
