Generously loaned by a private collector, the exhibition Drawn from a Private Collection focuses on drawings by renowned American artists from Winslow Homer to Fred Wilson. Ranging in date from 1880-2009, the works exhibit an array of subjects and styles in the development of the drawing medium in American art. For the majority of the artists represented in this exhibition, this is the first time that their art has ever been shown by the Museum. Curated by Executive Director George G. King, this exhibition marks an important step in our efforts to renew and underscore this organization’s contribution to American art. Timed to coincide with the launching of the new name, Mystic Museum of Art, the project also reaffirms our commitment to the greater creative community. By organizing exhibitions of this stature, we also demonstrate our intention to amplify our cultural leadership role not only in Southeastern Connecticut, but to a greater regional and national audience.
