SUMMARY:Westerly Land Trust Summer Paddles- Potter Hill to Westerly Landing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our free\, guided kayak/canoe paddles on Thursdays. We will pass through various local conservation lands\, including some of our own Westerly Land Trust preserves. The paddle times will be between 1 to 3 hours. We will meet at put in points and carpool to takeout sites unless otherwise stated. We will shuttle vehicles at 9:30 AM except as noted below. Be aware that our trips leave promptly Bring your own kayak/canoe\, paddle\, life jacket\, whistle\, water\, snacks\, etc. Some of us will go swimming. See www.westerlylandtrust.org for more details.\n\n\n\nJuly 2 Potter Hill to Westerly Landing\n\n \n\nPut in on right bank below the dam and bridge on Laurel St. Quick water at start is followed by a steady current. After passing under Boom Bridge\, it is about 1.5 miles to the dam and mill at White Rock. The dam can be run down the millrace to the left (Class II rapids). Keep left of center all the way. The river runs under White Rock Bridge and it's about 0.5 mile to Rte 78. The Stillmanville dam is 0.75 mile downstream. A canal on left side is kayakable/canoeable (Class II rapids) in most conditions. River runs through Westerly with interesting views of commercial buildings. Takeout is at Westerly Landing\, which is off Main Street\, across from McQuade's Supermarket.\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: \n\n\n	PFD's: Personal flotation devices or Life Jackets MUST be worn by all our paddlers properly zipped and/or buckled at all times while on the water\, in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Persons not willing to follow this requirement are not permitted on our trips. Inflatable PFD's are NOT allowed.\n\n\n\n	Sound signal (whistle\, horn\, etc.) is required.\n	If weather is questionable\, contact leader. \n	Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.
