SUMMARY:Westerly Land Trust Summer Paddles- Biscuit City to Shannock Lower Falls
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our free\, guided kayak/canoe paddles on Thursdays. We will pass through various local conservation lands\, including some of our own Westerly Land Trust preserves. The paddle times will be between 1 to 3 hours. We will meet at put in points and carpool to takeout sites unless otherwise stated. We will shuttle vehicles at 9:30 AM except as noted below. Be aware that our trips leave promptly Bring your own kayak/canoe\, paddle\, life jacket\, whistle\, water\, snacks\, etc. Some of us will go swimming. See www.westerlylandtrust.org for more details.\n\n \n\nAugust 6 Biscuit City to Shannock Lower Falls\n\n \n\nThis paddle includes some Class 2 quick-water which can be portaged if so desired. The first one is at the former dam at Kenyon Mills. There is now a series of 6 weirs with a clear but narrow passage thru them. Next is the Horseshoe Dam at Shannock Falls which MUST be portaged! Below the dam are several easy passages of quick water. The final optional portage is at the Lower Shannock Falls where a series of rocks require good "slalom" technique and ending in a significant drop into the pool at the take-out site. I recommend you scout Kenyon Dam from their parking lot\, and Lower Shannock Falls from near the chimney before making a decision. The put in just north of the Rte 2 RR overpass at Kenyon. Turn east on Kenyon Schoolhouse Road\, then right at "T" intersection to DEM landing. Take out is at the west end of the village\, right bank\, upstream from Shannock Road Bridge. \n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: \n\n\n	PFD's: Personal flotation devices or Life Jackets MUST be worn by all our paddlers properly zipped and/or buckled at all times while on the water\, in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Persons not willing to follow this requirement are not permitted on our trips. Inflatable PFD's are NOT allowed.\n\n\n\n	Sound signal (whistle\, horn\, etc.) is required.\n	If weather is questionable\, contact leader. \n	Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.
