DESCRIPTION:The third annual Sea Star Marketplace will be held on July 27 in Ninigret Park in Charlestown\, RI\, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fun-filled\, all-day event is a celebration of creativity in all its wondrous forms\, and features a unique and varied assortment of the best of area artists and handcrafters.\n\n \n\nOn the day of the event\, visitors arriving in Ninigret Park will see a sea of white tents arranged on a large grass field next to the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory. An old-fashioned marketplace will await. In addition to the fine arts and crafts for sale\, local food vendors will provide a range of interesting food choices\, including local seafood. Live entertainment\, special events\, demonstrations\, and activities for kids throughout the day will keep everyone having fun.\n\n \n\nLast year's event saw triple the number of exhibitors as the first year's. The response from exhibitors so far for the Third Annual Sea Star Marketplace this summer assures an even more successful event than the last two. The volunteers running the event believe that the Sea Star Marketplace will soon become as popular as the more established art and craft fairs in the area.\n\n \n\nThe event is a major fundraiser for the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory\, a private nonprofit that this year observes thirty years of excellence in the field of environmental education and twenty-five years of excellence in observational astronomy. Countless numbers of schoolchildren and adults have learned from its educational programming and gazed through its 16-inch telescope at planets\, stars\, and galaxies in the dark sky above. Funds raised go directly to educational programming and to keeping the Frosty Drew Observatory open to the public free of charge on Friday nights.\n\n \n\nArtists and handcrafters wishing to exhibit can go to the Frosty Drew Nature Center & Observatory website at frostydrew.org for more information and an application or can call401-364-9508. Antiques are also welcome. Exhibitors are selected by the Sea Star Marketplace Committee. Admission is free and there is ample parking. The rain date is July 28.
