SUMMARY:RI DEM Energy-Saving Trees Event in Westerly
DESCRIPTION:RI DEM tree giveaways under the new RI DEM Energy-Saving Trees Program  a free-tree giveaway program where homeowners can sign-up online for a free yard tree\, and quantifiably see the energy-saving of planting that tree on their property.  This is accomplished through a Program from the Arbor Day Foundation called Energy-Saving Trees  [http://energysavingtrees.arborday.org/#Home ].  I worked with them to establish a Program for RI where any homeowner that has land to plant a tree near their house can sign-up online\, come to a location to pick-up the tree (get some planting information/training) and take the tree home and plant it   all for free!\n\n\n\n While the Program is specifically aimed at reducing energy costs/consumption\, the myriad of benefits attributed to tree planting will also be attained through this Program. Calculable savings backed by industry-leading science from the US Forest Service\, Davey Tree\, and the National Arbor Day Foundation will provide homeowners and Program administrators(me) with data points relating to the specific savings in $ value\, kWh\, therms\, gallons of storm water capture\, and lbs. of carbon captured per year (@ year 20).   This will give us great knowledge and power in talking about the benefits of trees moving forward.\n\n\n\nThese events are open to any RI citizen and we will not limit the number of trees that will be at any event (pre-registration is necessary) but I would estimate there would be between 250-300 trees at any one event based upon pre-registration.  We would need space for 2 tables\, a 10ft. canopy tent and the delivery truck (lowboy with trailer) and place to display the trees.
