SUMMARY:March of the Penguins with the Mystic Aquarium
DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with the Mystic Aquarium\, March of the Penguins is a month-long celebration of penguins to raise awareness and funds for the African penguins\, an endangered species. Proceeds will benefit conservation efforts undertaken by the Mystic Aquarium and the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB).\n\nPENGUINS ON PARADE\n\nIn partnership with the Stonington and Westerly public elementary schools\, the month of March will kick off with a trail of penguins painted by their students! These large\, colorful penguins will be marching down Route 1 from the Dunns Corners area of Westerly to the UNITED\, and onto Route 234 from Pawcatuck towards Exit 91 and the Mystic Aquarium. Made possible by Handcrafted Homestead Furniture of The Velvet Mill & Hardwood Design Inc. of Exeter\, RI.\n\nPENGUINS IN PICTURES\n\nMarch 1st through April 12th | On view in the UNITED Gallery\n\nAward-winning New York based photographer Dan Callister has covered some of the world's biggest news stories\, from September 11th to an infamous water skiing squirrel named Twiggy. He is extremely passionate about natural history and the marine environment\, and we are thrilled to share his conservation work in our Gallery.\n\nMARCH OF THE PENGUINS FILM SCREENING\n\n(CLICK HERE FOR TICKETS)\n\nWednesday\, March 1st | 7pm | $7\n\nA screening of the namesake film kicking off the UNITED and Mystic Aquarium's month-long celebration of penguins "March of the Penguins." Luc Jacquet's groundbreaking and world-renowned 2005 documentary\, narrated by Morgan Freeman\, follows a year-long journey of penguins traveling to their breeding ground in an awe-inspiring celebration of nature and the endurance of the emperor penguins of Antarctica.\n\nPENGUINS ON ICE\n\nSunday\, March 5th | 1:30 3:30pm at the Ocean Community YMCA's Washington Trust Community Skating Center\n\n$12 Adults/ $9 kids / $6 for skate rentals\n\nCapacity is limited. All tickets are first come\, first served. Tickets will be sold at the entrance to the rink. \n\nJoin us at The Ocean Community YMCA's Washington Trust Community Skating Center for a raucous rookery of "penguins" on the ice!
