DESCRIPTION:The Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport presents the 31st annual International Marine Art Exhibition and Sale September 26 through November 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. \n\n            The exhibit celebrates the timeless beauty of the sea in the most comprehensive collection of contemporary maritime art in the nation.  More than 100 works will be on display\, including paintings\, drawings\, sculpture and scrimshaw depicting tall ships\, sailing yachts\, working craft\, commercial vessels\, warships and scenes of  the shoreline\, marshes\, beaches\, harbors and the wildlife that inhabit the seafaring world.\n\n"The 31st annual International showcases the most recent works of 115 award-winning marine artists from nine different countries\," said Jeanne Potter\, director of the Maritime Gallery. "The show is a commemoration of our maritime heritage with intricately researched historical scenes and contemporary images that document the relationship of man to the sea that still survives today."\n\nNoted participating artists include Ian Hansen\, Patrick Donovan\, Victor Mays\, Patrick O'Brien and Kent Ullberg. \n\nEight prestigious named awards and five awards of excellence including the Rudolph J. Schaefer Maritime Heritage Award\, which recognizes the work that best documents our maritime heritage\, past or present\, for future generations  will be given by invited judges at an awards dinner and preview September 25 (dinner by invite only). \n\nAdmission to the Maritime Gallery is free.
