    • About

New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) is a year round nonprofit 501(c)(3) ocean adventure program that engages students in experiential learning that builds confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills. Marine science, adventure sports, and sailing are catalysts for these skills as well as teaching respect and responsibility for the sea. NESS programs teach more than marine education; they provide a stimulating environment to discover life skills. NESS achieves this through its four core values of: experiential learning, personal growth, inclusiveness, and stewardship. Our extensive curriculum (over 300 courses) and incredibly dedicated staff make NESS a fantastic place to learn and have fun. Our scholarship program helps make our programs accessible to all. From the first moment the students interact with our staff, they feel at ease and confident that our talented teachers will help them reach their goals.

NESS & Westerly Recreation Department have partnered to provide a youth adventure program in the summer - Wuskenau Ocean Adventures (WOA) at Wuskenau Town Beach. Each week features a fun and adventurous theme investigating the wonders of our New England marine life. Our programs promote learning, exercise, and teamwork through outdoor, interactive fun. Programs include marine science exploration, kayak adventures, snorkel classes, and windsurfing.
